He made his international debut on 27 July 2013 against Cote d’Ivoire in a 2–0 loss in Abidjan during the 2014 African Nations Championship qualification campaign. He also played against Jordan an international friendly on 23 October 2013.
In the summer of 2014, he went on trial at Italian Serie A side Udinese and was to be offered a contract after impressing, but a fee could not be agreed with Warri Wolves, so he returned to Nigeria.

In December 2015, he helped the Nigerian U-23 Team to the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations triumph in Senegal; finishing top scorer with 5 goals, including a brace in a 2–1 win against Algeria in the final.

On 7 January 2016, he won the Most Promising Talent of the Year award at the CAF Awards in Abuja, Nigeria.

On 10 January 2016, he joined CD Feirense as a free player after his contract with Warri Wolves FC expired at the end of the 2014/15 season.

He was selected by Nigeria for their 35-man provisional squad for the 2016 Summer Olympics. He scored 4 goals vs Japan in Nigeria’s opening group match.

Supersport.com: What is your favourite food?
Oghenekaro Etebo: Rice, beans, plantain and chicken.

Supersport.com: Your happiest memory in football?
Oghenekaro Etebo: That would be my first league game with Warri Wolves at home. It was against El-Kanemi Warriors and I scored a hat-trick.

Supersport.com: And the worst?
Oghenekaro Etebo: Losing the Federation Cup final to Enyimba with Warri Wolves on penalties in 2013 made me cry like a baby.

Supersport.com: Who is your best friend in football?
Oghenekaro Etebo: That will be my teammate at Wolves, Michael Uremu Egbeta. We have been friends even before we both joined the club and it has continued till this moment.

Supersport.com: Who is your best-dressed teammate?
Oghenekaro Etebo: Daniel Akpeyi, our goalkeeper. He’s a very trendy guy.

Supersport.com: And the worst?
Oghenekaro Etebo: Freedom Omoforman. He will kill me for this (chuckles).

Supersport.com: Who is the best coach you have ever worked with?
Oghenekaro Etebo: Solomon Ogbeide. He’s the coach who spotted me when I didn’t even believe in myself.

Supersport.com: Tell us about the best goal you ever scored.
Oghenekaro Etebo: That was a goal I scored against Sunshine Stars at the Warri City Stadium. I received a lofted pass from midfield and smashed it home with my left foot. It was a truly great goal.

Supersport.com: Who is the most difficult opponent you have ever faced?
Oghenekaro Etebo: Enugu Rangers’ Senegalese defender Pierre Coly. He’s as hard as nails.

Supersport.com: What would you do if you received a gift of a million dollars?
Oghenekaro Etebo: That’s a great question. I will invest a large chunk of that money but I will also help the poor and needy in society.

Supersport.com: Your favourite football club?
Oghenekaro Etebo: In Nigeria Warri Wolves and in Europe FC Barcelona.

Supersport.com: Who is that one female celebrity you would want to date?
Oghenekaro Etebo: If I say my girlfriend will kill me (laughs).

Supersport.com: Your favourite colour?
Oghenekaro Etebo: White.

Supersport.com: Your favourite car?
Oghenekaro Etebo: I don’t really have one, but it has to be black.
